Jason R. Wetsel, MBA
President and CEO
Business has fascinated me from a young age and I started my first business at age 14. There are successful entrepreneurs on both sides of my family. On my father's side, my family ran a lumber mill for 65 years in El Dorado County. I regularly meet with my uncle who ran it and consider him one of my best business consultants. On my mother's side, my grandfather was the inventor of the first real time ultrasound machine and a pioneer in scientific archaeology. My life has been enriched by travel with him and learning from his experiences.
During college I created Pacific Trading Group, an international export business, and sold bulk quantities of frozen chicken to the world’s largest consumer of dark meat chicken in Europe. The business was successful until a political coup resulted in the closure of the buying group.
In high school, I heard my pastor quote the shocking statistic that only 12% of Americans retire at the same income level they enjoyed while working which motivated me to learn how to retire comfortably.
Recognizing the need for people to have comprehensive personalized investment advice, I became a financial advisor in 2006 and quickly built a loyal clientele in Placerville. For several years, I commuted to the Bay area at night and completed my Masters in Business with an emphasis in finance from St. Mary's College in Moraga in 2009.
Education is something I really enjoy and consider myself a persistent student of investing. I stay abreast of current market trends and consistently study the markets.
Living in the small community in El Dorado County has made me realize that the level of service you provide your clients becomes your reputation.
My lovely wife Kristi and I have been married for 15 years, and we have 5-year-old twin boys named Taggart and Trent. We appreciate this area for its foothills, farms, and history. Being part of a community is important, and we support several non-profit organizations throughout the year, both physically and financially. I currently serve on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County and my wife is a Big Sister. This community has been very good to my family and me.
With over 20 years of experience in the financial industry, I bring a strong background in client service to Wetsel Financial. My former positions have been, primarily in administration and compliance. I prioritize customer support and service as the most important part of my job. I take pride in ensuring that our clients are being taken care of in a professional and timely manner. Connecting with our clients on a personal level is something I enjoy. Staying abreast of current market conditions and trends is also very important to me, so that I can help in speaking with our clients about their accounts.
My husband Jim and I have been married for 19 years and have two boys. Joe is 11 and Charlie is 13. Our family moved to El Dorado County in 2014 from the East Bay to provide a better quality of life for our then, two young boys. Working at Wetsel Financial has allowed me the flexibility to stay involved in my children’s education and extra-curricular activities. Jason understands the importance of family and knows that, while I attend to my children, I am 100% dedicated to helping him run his business.
Giving back to community is an important part of my life and something I wish to impart on my two boys. For me, that is accomplished by giving the gift of my time as a volunteer in several capacities. Currently, I am on the board of the Parent Teacher Committee at Marina Village Middle School. This will also be my third year as a Cathechist at Holy Trinity Church teaching Faith Formation. I enjoy being active in the education arena, as I have a vested interest in my children’s future.
